WUSD Back to School Message and Negotiations Update

                                                                                            August 4, 2016

Dear Bridgeway Parents,

Welcome back to another exciting new school year!  I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families and returning students.  The Staff and I are looking forward to working with you and your children this year.  We are committed to continuing the excellent educational program for every child at Bridgeway.

Your child will receive an information packet the first day of school with the following forms:  nurse alert form, lunch application, health insurance form, school emergency card, and school instructional calendar.  All of the information will be in an envelope, so please take the time to go over the packet and return the necessary documents by Friday, August 19th.  The lunch application form has to be resubmitted yearly.  Please update the emergency card information. Information from the card is used to input all student information for the school year.   If you have a student with a serious health condition, please send the nurse alert form to the office immediately.  Our school handbook will be handed out at Back to School Night to give teachers an opportunity to go over the handbook with our parents.

Your child’s suggested donation list of school supplies is available on our school website. School supplies are readily available at any local supply store such as Target or Wal-Mart.

School hours for regular days are from 8:00-2:30 for 4th -8th grades, and 8:10-2:30 for 1st -3rd grades.  AM kindergarten student hours are from 8:00-11:20 A.M. with lunch available as an option from 11:20-11:40.  PM kindergarten hours are from 11:10-2:30 p.m. Lunch is available as an option for PM kindergarten students from 10:50-11:10.  Collaboration/minimum day school hours for 1st-8th grade students are from 8:00-12:45 p.m.  The district instructional calendar and the minimum/collaboration day calendar are available through the district website .

Bridgeway is currently an impacted school and some of our newly enrolled students will be overflowed to another campus.  If your child is going to be affected by our impacted enrollment status, you will receive notification from the district office or our school office will notify you of your child’s placement for this school year.

The School Uniform Policy is the same as last year.  The district website clearly defines and gives samples of what is acceptable and meets our uniform requirements.  Thank you to our parents for supporting our school uniform policy.

Our Back to School Night for 6th-8th grades will be on Wednesday, August 31st, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.   Back to School Night for Kindergarten- 5th grades will be on Wednesday, September 7th, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.   Come and meet your child’s teacher and learn what we have planned for this school year.

The long awaited class lists will be posted on Friday, August 12th, by 5:00 p.m.  Changes to this class may be made as needed.   Our 6th-8th grade students may come by on August 15th or 16th, from 10-4 in the office to pick up their class schedules. Incoming 7th graders will need to have their TDAP immunization completed before they can pick up their schedule and attend school. There is no grace period for the TDAP immunization.

If we can be of any assistance to you before school starts, please feel free to contact the school office at 375-7778.  We look forward to welcoming everyone back Wednesday, August 17th.  See you at the school hive!

Pick-up / Drop-off

For the safety of your child, please follow the
pick-up and drop-off procedures.

Be a courteous driver

than adults, cannot accurately judge distance and speed, and are more likely to dart out into the
•  Always drive 25 MPH or less around the school during school travel times.
•  Do not stop in or block visibility of crosswalks.
Parking lot pick-up and drop-off
•  The parking lot entrance is across from Maui Street and the exit is across from Big Island Road.
•  Getting into the parking lot can be frustrating, but remember to yield to those with the right-

drivers turning left into the lot. Drivers stopped at Maui Street should only proceed when there
are no approaching vehicles on Half Moon Bay Drive.
•  Follow the directional arrows on the pavement. Do not drive the wrong way.
•  Pull all the way forward in the loading/unloading area along the curb. Do not leave your
vehicle. If you need to park, use the spaces in the center of the lot.
• ADA pick-up and drop-off only from 10:40- 11:40 AM and 2:00-3:00 PM in the loading lane.
Half Moon Bay Circle pick-up and drop-off
•  Use the former bus loading zone near the 7th and 8th grade classrooms.
•  Drop-off and pick-up your children only on the school-side of the street. Do not have your
children cross the street midblock.
•  Your children should enter and exit your vehicle only on the passenger side.
•  After loading/unloading on Half Moon Bay Circle, turn left onto Tacoma Narrows Street to avoid
the parking lot entrance/exit congestion.
